As you might know, I've been screaming about this for years but nobody has given me a clear cut answer. Basically, if Win 764 (or at least 32) has been out there for quite some time, why are so many of you still hooked on XP? This makes sense for someone on the forum who has an extremely old computer and simply cannot afford to upgrade. But really, given the fact that it's been ages since they stopped making 32-bit processors and a minimum 4 Gb of ram isn't all that expensive, how many of you are stuck with ancient computers and financially see no way out? XP is ancient history, and Windows 8 is on the horizon.

Hello
Humbert 8)
to which question you didn't get a clear cut answer. ???

because XP is more stable than
Win 7 and uses very less System Resources.

Yeah that's true.
I love :-* the new Metro style, but they say its not very user friendly.

Gee Blade, you're up bright and early this morning. It's 8:15am over there. Do you have the day off or do you work a later shift. You did say you're a teacher, right?
What I've been ranting about forever is why so many people here are still stuck on XP and keep screaming for it, unless, of course, they've got ancient computers and simply can't afford to upgrade, at least not at this time. The only answer I ever received was one guy who explained he needed it for work, as if they had a license for it (or something). That being the case, they must have a legal copy because licenses aren't free. Why, then, is he here asking for Maher's copy? I asked him and I don't remember receiving a reply.
Basically, equipment that can handle 64-bit OS's has been around even before any 64 bit software even came out. It is this that prompted my question.

Yeah that's true, but
everyone has their own tastes of life. So let them be as they are. :D :D
Hello again guys,
I'll give you my reasons for XP.
A. 10 year old 32bit computer. 1 gig ram.
B. It's the first OS I have been happy with since win 2.03.
C. It takes me a long time to learn/be comfortable with new system's/tools.
Any help ?
Bye

I'm with you on reasons A and B, especially reason A (I posted a message about his). But on reason C, believe me, you are gravely mistaken, something I very rarely say to people unless I strongly believe it. If my many years of computing have taught me anything, it is that upgrades are an inescapable fact of life and you simply and plainly cannot be stuck in the past. Before you even bat an eyelash you're going to find yourself in an "upgrade or die" situation. Trust me, I've seen it happen so many times it's unbelievable -- and keep in mind the first computer I ever had was an 8-bit Atari. It could only address 64k of memory and ran at the fast speed of 1 Mhz (not Ghz).
I believe you. But have to wait for 2 new (old) machines (+ flat-screens) promised to me, to arrive.
As these are gifts, all I can do is wait but hopefully one at-lest, will be 64bit. Then will upgrade to 7 and the long learning possess will begin.
(Untill Win 10 or 11. LoL)

Hey man, then you're in business! That's cool, I hope you get your new system soon. I think I can still hold out a maximum of 2-3 years before upgrading again. In the mean time, by all means stick with XP, better that than nothing.

As I explained, I'm in Miami visiting my mother and using the phone to call in, so I'll tell my config from memory. The board is an Asus M478A-E with an AMD Phenom
II 975 X4 (3.6 Ghz). 8 GB DDR2 memory (I run them @1066 w/no probs). Sata II, 160GB SSD + 2 more magnetic drives for storage. I bought a USB 3.0 card for an external drive on there. I'd say it'll last 2-3 more years.
Hmmmmm...........
quite interesting Config :)

I wish it were better. As you know, simply getting a better board is one thing. The problem is you need all the other goodies to match. The new board will not support my DDR2's. My drives might all be SATA-II (except for maybe 1), these would have to be upgraded to SATA III to get the board's full effect. If the board doesn't have a graphics card already in it, then pony up some bread for that. And of course there's the microprocessor. These are the reasons upgrading doesn't exactly come cheap, the new system either won't work at all with your old components or, if they do, at the same speed as the old board.

Get real. MS do things for their shareholder's and executive's bank balances, any convenience to customers is purely coincidental (but happily received).

And believe me, they're not the only ones! Apple (or "Crapple", as I call them) in sheer greed makes Micro$haft look like a company of philanthropists. And naturally, Crapply is but one example. The list of companies with this policy goes on and on. When it comes to their corporate profits, all bets are off and they'll stop at nothing.
